Tuesday to Saturdaygreengrassi is pleased to announce Shio Kusaka’s first exhibition in the UK. The artist will present a series of ceramic sculptures for her solo show at the gallery.
Kusaka models ceramic vessels of which no two are the same. Their shapes are simple and usually bottom-heavy or columnar. A minimal choice of palette is enlivened with patterned markings and coloured lines. Though they look utilatarian, this is not why they are made. It is clear that formal considerations are paramount for Kusaka and that there is an exploration through the ceramic medium of these formal concerns.
